Temperature
Isis walked from her afternoon classes
to her car; it was a long day of preparing for finals, she gave a heavy
sigh as she loaded her book bag into the back seat. Before getting in
she waited outside for her boyfriend Chase, he was running a little late
but she didn't try to worry too much."Isis! Sorry I'm late I was talking to a professor about a project," Chase greeted her with a kiss as his apology "Alright, shall he get going?"
She smiled and forgave him for his tardiness, "yeah"
They both got into her car and drove off.
Chase gave out a sigh of relief "I swear, I hate finals week, everything is twice as difficult."
"Oh my god, I know!" Isis cried, "I cannot afford to fail."
As they were discussing their classes and professors, some guy darted in front of Isis's car; she quickly hit her breaks hoping she didn't hit the stranger. Isis and Chase both got out the car to see if he was ok.
"Oh my gosh! I'm so sorry! I didn't see you there, are you ok? Do I need to call 911?" She cried out in panic.
"I-I'm Fine," said the stranger, he managed to get up and brushed himself off.
"I'm so sorry!" Isis cried again, "I'll pay for any damages or anything!"
The guy smirked, "It's totally fine, I swear. It's my fault for being so reckless" He held a gaze into her eyes for a moment then started to walk away.
"Wow, that went better than I thought," Chase commented.
Isis tried to come back to her senses with her heart beating a mile a minute, "That was so scary,"
"Well at least he's ok, let's get going before it gets too late."
Later that evening after taking Chase home, Isis pulled into her house driveway. Her mother greeted her with a hello then asked what was wrong. She still had a worried look on her face without even realizing it.
Isis looked up from spacing out, "Oh—Everything is fine mom, just a crazy day at school…heh."
"Chase didn't do something crazy did he?" said her mother with a mono tone.
"What? No! it has nothing to do with him… I just kind of… almost hit a guy"
"Was he ok?"
"Yeah actually he was perfectly fine, he said sorry because he said he was being reckless,"
Her mother gave her a weird look, "okay…You be careful, or that car will be gone missy."
"Yes ma'am,"
She went into her room and closed the door to study, but she couldn't stop thinking about the guy she almost ran over today.
"I know he said he was ok, but I hope I see him again just to make sure."
After hours of attempting to study without and distractions she went down for dinner, and then went to take a shower before bed. As getting ready to lie down she got a text from Chase saying: 'Goodnight babe'. That put a smile on her face and made her feel better about herself.
In the middle of the night, around 3 AM a loud knock came to the door, Isis could hear her mother getting up grouching to herself hoping that nobody had better not be playing a joke this time of the night. Downstairs Mrs. Sharp opened the door and was greeted by a family of three.
"We are so sorry to bother at this time of night," said the father, "Our house got burned down, we have to get it rebuilt but we have nowhere to go."
Mrs. Sharp gasped in shock, "Oh my god! I am so sorry to hear this, here come in, it's cold out there."
"Thank you so much, I do not know how this happened. I'm Jeff Chun; this is my daughter Loa, and my oldest son Jayson."
"No problem at all Jeff, your family can stay in our guest rooms until your house is ready," Mrs. Sharp insisted.
"You are a very kind lady miss," Jayson said with a courteous bow.
Isis came downstairs to see what was all the commotion about, her mother turned to her and said, "Oh, Isis, this is Jeff Chun and his family. Their house burned down so they'll be staying here until it's fixed."
"Oh my, sorry to hear that," she said, "I'm Isis, you all make yourselves comfortable here," she gave them all a welcoming smile until she looked onto Jayson, she couldn't help but stare at him.
"He looks so familiar, as if I just seen him before"
"Earth to Isis," Said her mother.
She blinked back into reality, "yeah?"
"Help the Chun Family with their things ok, make them feel at home"
Her mother led Jeff and Loa up stairs and Isis were left downstairs with Jayson.
"Nice house your family has," he stated.
"Oh… thanks," Isis replied, she continued to just observe him.
"Um, is something on my face?" Jayson asked.
"Oh! N-no… not at all, you just look…very familiar"
"Yeah you do to?" Jayson looked then snapped his fingers, "Girl with the blue Honda Civic right?"
Isis gasped, "That was you!"
"Heh, yeah, told you I was alright though." He smiled.
"Well I'm glad to know, I'll show you to your guest room," she said as she led him upstairs to a room not that far from hers.
"This was very nice of your family to do this, we owe you guys big time!"
"Oh, it's ok. Anything for a good neighbor right?" she said with a smile.
Jayson looked in awe at his new room he was going to be staying in, it wasn't tiny but it wasn't a massive room either. It made him feel right at home and everything
"Woah, is that a 42" inch plasma?" he cried out.
"Yeah, let's just say my dad makes a nice living,"
"Wow, this is awesome, and it's even more awesome to share a home with someone from school to."
"Yeah, well I'll let you get settled, I'm going back to bed, if you need anything just knock on my door kay?" Isis stated as she went back to her own room.
"She's a very fascinating girl," Jayson thought to himself, "and so nice and loving to…"
